9 Million BISP Beneficiaries to Receive Payments via Banks

The Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) is a transformative initiative aimed at alleviating poverty and empowering vulnerable families in Pakistan. Since its inception in 2008, BISP has grown into a nationwide program, now reaching approximately 9.3 million families, with an ambitious target to support 10 million families by 2025.

Overview of BISP and Benazir Kafaalat

The BISP program, under its Benazir Kafaalat Scheme, offers critical financial assistance to low-income families. This initiative not only addresses immediate financial needs but also aims to foster long-term economic stability.

Objectives of the BISP Program:

  • Financial Relief: Assisting families to cope with the rising costs of basic goods and services.
  • Poverty Reduction: Empowering low-income families to meet essential needs.
  • Women Empowerment: Prioritizing female-led households and enhancing women’s financial inclusion.
  • Global Alignment: Supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including eradicating poverty and hunger.

Quarterly Payment Structure

Eligible families receive quarterly financial aid from BISP. As of now:

  • Each family receives Rs. 10,500 per quarter.
  • This amount will be increased to Rs. 12,500 starting January 2025.

Expanded Banking Access for Payments

To make the payment process smoother and more efficient, BISP has expanded its network of partner banks. Previously, beneficiaries relied heavily on Habib Bank Limited (HBL), often causing long queues and delays. Now, multiple banks across Punjab and other regions are authorized for withdrawals, ensuring:

  • Reduced Wait Times: Faster and more accessible services.
  • Convenience: Beneficiaries can choose from a broader range of banks for transactions.
